Background
Most "celebrity compatibility" content on the internet compares sun signs and offers vague generalizations. We took a different approach: compute actual synastry charts for 1,179 celebrity pairs using the Swiss Ephemeris library -- the same astronomical engine used by professional observatories -- and score each pair based on inter-chart planetary aspects, orbs, and aspect nature.
Each celebrity's planetary positions (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, North Node, and Chiron) were calculated from verified birth data. We then compared every planet in Person A's chart against every planet in Person B's chart, identifying conjunctions, sextiles, trines, squares, and oppositions within standard synastric orbs.
Methodology Note
Synastry scores are computed from the ratio of harmonious aspects (conjunctions, sextiles, trines) to challenging aspects (squares, oppositions), weighted by orb tightness. A tight Venus-Moon trine (orb 0.5 degrees) contributes more than a wide Saturn-Mars square (orb 7 degrees). Scores range from 0 to 100, where 50 represents a neutral balance between harmonious and challenging contacts.
All planetary positions are computed using the Swiss Ephemeris to 0.001-degree precision. Birth times use verified sources where available. Where only birth dates are known, noon charts are used (a standard practice in natal astrology when exact time is unavailable).

These pairs scored the highest in our synastry analysis, meaning their planetary positions create an unusually high number of harmonious inter-chart aspects with tight orbs.

What the Top Pairs Share
A striking pattern in the highest-scoring pairs: shared Moon signs or Moon-sign element agreement. In the top 3 pairs, Ellen DeGeneres and Victoria Beckham have an exact Moon-Sun sign swap (Aquarius-Aries and Aries-Aquarius), which creates a powerful mutual reception dynamic. Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez share Scorpio Moon connections. These lunar connections suggest that emotional resonance -- not just personality compatibility -- drives the highest synastry scores.
Another finding: Fire signs dominate the top 10. Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius Sun or Moon signs appear in 18 of the 20 individuals in the top 10 pairs. Fire-sign placements create dynamic, energizing inter-chart aspects that our scoring algorithm rewards.

Their charts produce an unusually high number of tight squares between personal planets, particularly Venus-Saturn and Mars-Moon contacts that indicate friction in emotional expression and values.
A notable finding: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt scored 42.4 out of 100 -- well below the dataset average of 62.3. Their synastry shows a Sun-Sun opposition (Gemini vs. Sagittarius) and a Moon-Saturn square, aspects traditionally associated with initial magnetic attraction followed by structural tension. Their real-life trajectory is consistent with this reading.
Highest-Scoring Zodiac Pairings
Aggregating scores across all 1,179 pairs and grouping by Sun-sign combination, these zodiac pairings produce the highest average synastry scores in our dataset.
Fire-Air combinations dominate the top pairings. This is consistent with traditional astrological compatibility theory: Fire and Air elements feed each other (Air fuels Fire), creating energizing, stimulating connections. The appearance of Water-Water (Cancer + Pisces) in the top group confirms that same-element pairings can also score highly when emotional wavelengths align.
Most Common Aspects in High-Scoring Pairs
We examined which specific planet-to-planet aspects appear most frequently in pairs scoring above 80.

Venus-Moon Trine -- Present in 72% of pairs scoring above 80. The tightest orbs (under 2 degrees) correlate with the highest overall scores. This aspect indicates natural emotional comfort and shared aesthetic values.

Sun-Moon Conjunction or Sextile -- Found in 68% of top pairs. The "lights" connecting harmoniously is one of the oldest compatibility indicators in synastry, and the data confirms its significance.

Jupiter-Venus Trine -- Present in 61% of high-scoring pairs. Jupiter expands what it touches; when it harmoniously contacts Venus, it amplifies mutual generosity, joy, and appreciation.

North Node-Moon Sextile -- Appears in 58% of top pairs. This karmic contact suggests the emotional connection serves a growth purpose for both individuals.

Key Findings
After analyzing all 1,179 pairs, several conclusions emerge:
- 1. Moon-sign connections matter more than Sun-sign matches. The highest-scoring pairs consistently show harmonious Moon contacts, while Sun-sign compatibility alone is a weak predictor.
- 2. Fire-Air combinations produce the highest average scores, while Earth-Water combinations tend toward the middle range -- not low, but rarely at the extremes.
- 3. Venus-Moon trines are the single strongest predictor of a high synastry score, appearing in 72% of pairs above 80.
- 4. Some tension improves compatibility scores. Pairs with zero challenging aspects actually score lower than pairs with 2-3 well-placed squares, suggesting that productive tension contributes to connection.
- 5. The average score across all 1,179 pairs is 62.3, indicating that most randomly selected celebrity pairs have a slight lean toward compatibility -- possibly because celebrities in our dataset skew toward Fire and Air signs.
