A solar eclipse occurs near a new Moon; a lunar eclipse occurs near a full Moon. Both require alignment near a lunar node. The date and degree describe the sky. Visibility depends on your location: check NASA's event maps and solar-viewing safety guidance before planning an observation.
The comparison uses the Sun's tropical longitude for solar eclipses and the Moon's for lunar eclipses. It highlights conjunctions within 3° of supported saved planet positions. It does not test oppositions, squares, chart angles or houses, and a closer match does not establish a stronger personal effect.

Sidereal positions use a different reference frame, and unknown-time positions can be representative, especially for the Moon. In those cases we show the general calendar with an explanation rather than a precise personal comparison. You can still explore your chart with the free calculator.
